Brooklyn Spoils Senior Day for York Men’s Basketball
BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, NY—The York College men's basketball team was hoping to have a big night Wednesday evening, as four seniors were playing in their final home game. However, Brooklyn College spoiled the party as they cruised to an 80-58 win.
Turnovers plagued York throughout the game, as they gave the ball away 31 times, which Brooklyn turned into 39 points. By comparison, the Bulldogs turned it over just 17 times.
Brooklyn's Tyshawn Russell was the beneficiary of many of those turnovers, as he continually scored on fast breaks, leading to him scoring a game-high 25 points. Amil John added 17 points and Kavon Baker had 18 points and six boards for Brooklyn.
Brooklyn (16-7, 7-3 CUNYAC) controlled the majority of the game, with the exception of the end of the first half. The Bulldogs were leading by 14 points, when a 7-0 York run cut the lead in half at halftime (39-32).
York was hoping to carry that momentum into the second half but it wasn't meant to be as the Bulldogs outscored the Cardinals 41-26 in the final 20 minutes.
York was led by
Shamir Wilkinson, who finished with 15 points and five boards.
Michael Trowers added a career-high 13 points.
Omari Phipps scored two points and needs 15 more points to reach 1,000 for his career.
York (7-17, 3-7 CUNYAC) will visit CCNY on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
