JAMAICA, N.Y.— York College freshman outside hitter Edner Geffard combined for 21 kills in two matches to lead the York College men's' volleyball team to a pair of victories Thursday night.  York opened the night with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 28-26) victory over conference-rival City College of New York.  They followed with another three-set victory over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), winning that match by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-19).

In the opening match against CCNY, York had to fight hard for every set.  All three sets were close but York was able to pull it out each time.  The most competitive set was the final one, as the teams were forced to play up to 28 points to decide the winner.  York fought off a set point at 24-23, when an attack error evened up the score at 24 apiece.  York then had three cracks at clinching the match but CCNY's Nick Siriban came up big with a pair of kills to fight off two of those match points.  York finally broke through on the third match point when a Bryan Williams attack found the bottom of the floor to give the Cardinals the victory.

Geffard and Williams each had a match-high 11 kills in the contest.  Jhonnattan Fernandez had nine kills (.533) and three blocks, while Francis Jimenez chipped in five kills.  The Cardinals played a strong game on defense with six players picking up five digs or more.  Terrence Sutton and Williams led the way with eight digs apiece.

The Cardinals had an easier match against St. Joseph's as they cruised in all three sets.  Geffard was remarkably efficient in the contest, slamming ten kills with no errors in 15 attempts (.667).  Maximo Bonilla recorded eight kills, while Sutton had eight kills and seven digs.  Kevin Mora led the way on defense with ten digs.

York (7-8, 3-0 CUNYAC) will be idle until February 24, when they host Penn State-Behrend at 6:00 p.m.
