Men's Soccer Eliminated by Baruch in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

BROOKLYN, N.Y.-- For the first time since 2006, the York College men's soccer team will not be in the semifinal round of the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships. York fell to Baruch College, 3-1, in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC/ Applebee's Men's Soccer Championships, Wednesday afternoon.
Two early goals in the first half put Baruch ahead and they never let York get the equalizer, winning 3-1. The Cardinals played strong the entire contest with 15 shots, compared to Baruch's 16. Baruch led 2-1 for almost the whole second half until junior Kyle Keague sealed the win, scoring in the 86
th minute, off a free kick to put Baruch up 3-1.
Junior Victor Tlepshev scored the first goal of the game in the 26
th minute on a thru ball shot to the right post. Just four minutes later, in the 30
th minute, freshman Oren Kozlowski scored the second goal of the game for the Bearcats on another thru ball. Senior Akil George was the difference maker in the match, assisting on all three goals for Baruch.
The Cardinals fought back in the second half and cut into the deficit after a penalty kick by junior
Oluwaseun Ogundele in the 65th minute to make it 2-1. York did have its chances to tie the game late but could not execute when the opportunity was given. Freshman goalkeeper
Leszek Stankiewicz had five saves to lead the Cardinals in their last game of the season.
The York Cardinals finish the season, 4-11-1. Baruch advances to the semifinals on Saturday.
