Women’s Tennis Tops Lehman to Clinch #5 Seed in CUNYAC Playoffs; Will Take on Baruch Wednesday at USTA Tennis Center
RESULTS
JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's tennis team closed out the conference portion of its schedule on Monday night with a 6-3 win over Lehman College. With the win, York clinches the #5 seed in Wednesday's CUNY Athletic Conference Quarterfinal where they will take on Baruch College at 6:30 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
York (3-8) started off taking a 2-1 advantage after doubles play.
Valerie Roland and
Maleeka Chin were 8-6 winners at first doubles and
Anna Ko and
Nikita Ramsay won, 8-1, at #2 doubles.
Shortly after singles play began, heavy rain came down, which delayed the match. Because the conference playoffs were two days away and the match needed to be completed, the two teams packed up their equipment and headed towards the USTA National Tennis Center to complete the match indoors.
From there, York was able to take four of the six singles matches to clinch the win. Chin picked up her second win of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the second flight, as did
Anna Ko and
Nikita Ramsay who won at second and third singles respectively.
Sohani Sookdeo earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at fifth singles to round out York's scoring.
Should York advance, they will compete in the semifinals on Friday the Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m.
