Eastern Connecticut Buries York with Hot Shooting

BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, NY—Eastern Connecticut State University shot 53 percent from the field and 59 percent from three-point range (13-22), while also stifling the York College men's basketball team on defense, as the Warriors went on to defeat the Cardinals 77-52 in a non-conference game on Monday night.

York had little answer for one of the top teams in NCAA Division III, as Eastern Connecticut shot well from start to finish.  Brian Sazillo came off the bench to lead ECSU with 23 points, making 7-of-11 three pointers on the night.  Jamie Kohn added 15 points, six assists and five boards and Joe Ives added 12 points and three assists.  Defensively, they held York to 34 percent shooting from the field and nine percent from long range.

The Cardinals kept it close through most of the first half, until the Warriors went on a 17-3 run over a six-minute span to take the score from 15-14 to 32-17 with 3:11 to play before halftime.  ECSU was never threatened from that point on, as the Cardinals never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

The Cardinals were led by Michael Edwards who finished with 13 points and four assists.  Omari Phipps added 12 points and four boards and Shamir Wilkinson finished with eight points and nine rebounds.

ECSU improves to 16-3 with the victory, while York drops to 7-14.  The Cardinals will return to action on Friday with a conference game against Medgar Evers College. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
