Baruch Holds Off York Men’s Basketball in Hard-Fought Contest
BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, NY—The York College men's basketball team lost another tough game Friday night, losing by a score of 67-64 to conference-foe Baruch College. The Bearcats used strong free throw shooting to hold off a persistent York team in the final minute to win the game.
Baruch started the game on fire, connecting on a trio of three-pointers early, which helped give the Bearcats an 18-6 cushion. York turned up the defense from there, holding Baruch scoreless for the next 6:30. A 13-0 run fueled by
William Holley's six points put York on top, 19-18, with 6:25 left in the first half.
Baruch responded with a 10-2 run, capped off by a three-pointer by Fuat Yupar to put Baruch up by seven points with 4:12 left. They would eventually take a four-point advantage (34-30) into the locker room.
Baruch continued to hold a narrow lead through most of the second half. The Cardinals jumped ahead briefly at the 13:09 and 5:48 mark, but the Bearcats held the lead the rest of the time.
Baruch was clutch from the free throw line late in the game. The Bearcats were 8-10 from the charity stripe in the game's final minute.
Trailing by four points, York's Michal Edwards drove the length of the court to make the score 63-61 in favor of Baruch with 23 seconds left.
York fouled on its next possession but Baruch's Chris Beauchamp—who was a perfect 7-7 from the line— made both shots to make it a four-point game. Edwards was once again able to successfully drive the lane and get a bucket for York to cut the lead back to two points with 11 ticks remaining. Following another York foul, Baruch hit a pair of free throws to go back up four points. With just five seconds left, York had no chance to get two scores.
The Bearcats (10-11, 4-4 CUNYAC) were led by Beauchamp, who scored a game-high 27 points. Yupar and Mickey Abatielleo each added nine points. Holley led York with 24 points and 12 boards. Edwards finished with a season-high 15 points and

The Cardinals will host Eastern Connecticut State University on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
