Buzzer-beater Stuns Cardinals in Loss to Hunter
BOX SCORE
NEW YORK N.Y— The York College men's basketball team saw a late comeback wasted as Hunter's Anthony Uter hit a put-back lay-up as time expired to give the Hawks a 63-62 win over the Cardinals in a CUNY Athletic Conference contest Wednesday evening.
York trailed nearly the entire second half, losing by as many as 11 points but battled back to take a one-point lead with just 14 seconds to go.
Just prior to taking the lead, with 1:07 left to go,
Shamir Wilkinson knocked down a pair of free throws to bring the visitors back to within one (61-60). A Hunter foul sent the Cardinals' top scorer--
William Holley to the line who then converted a pair of free throws to put the Cardinals ahead, 62-61 with 14 seconds to play. Hunter ran an out-of- bounds play and the initial attempt fell short before Uter's put-back gave Hunter the 63-62 victory.
The Cardinals saw a great night from Holley wasted as he scored a game-high 23 points, with ten of those points coming from the charity stripe.
Shamir Wilkinson added 14 points and five rebounds. The Hawks had four players in double figures, led by Mark Courtien who finished with 18 points.
Hunter improves to 9-9, 4-2 in the CUNYAC, while York drop to 7-12, 3-3 in conference play. The Cardinals will look to rebound from the tough defeat on Friday when they host Baruch College at 8:00 p.m.
