Rutgers-Camden Tops Women’s Volleyball in Straight Sets

JAMAICA, NY—The York College women's volleyball team saw a fast start quickly erased as the Lady Cardinals fell to Rutgers University-Camden by a score of 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-19) on Wednesday evening.
 
York looked strong at the start as they jumped out to a 7-4 lead after a kill by freshman Stayce Kay Muirhead.   York still held a lead at 11-9 but Rutgers-Camden took off from there, scoring eight unanswered points to take a 17-11 advantage.  After York picked up two straight points, the Raptors put together another impressive streak, scoring eight consecutive points again to close out the set. 
 
The Raptors carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 12-4 advantage before winning the set by a score of 25-8.  The Lady Cardinals kept it close in the final set but Rutgers-Camden prevailed by a 25-19 tally.
 
York was led by Muirhead, who finished with six kills (.714 hitting percentage) and two aces.  Angeline Palma picked up a team-high six digs.  Rutgers-Camden was led by Katherine Crosby and Chelsea Schmotzer who finished with six kills apiece.  
 
York falls to 0-3, while Camden improves to 4-2.  York will open up conference play this Saturday when they take on Medgar Evers College and Baruch College on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
