Second Half Surge Lifts CCNY over York in First-Ever Women’s Soccer Game

Box Score

JAMAICA, NY— Playing in the school's first-ever women's soccer game, the York College Lady Cardinals fell to the City College of New York (CCNY) by a score of 2-0 on Thursday afternoon.

After a closely contested first half, CCNY turned up its play in the second-half, picking up a pair of goals to earn the victory.  CCNY's Tabitha Azor was the game's hero as she was responsible for both scores.  The first came in the 68th minute when teammate Daniela Agundelo set up Azor with an open look in front of the net.  Azor took advantage of the good position and rifled a shot on the left-hand side, just out of the reach of York goalie Darshanie Thakoordyal

Just a few minutes later, Azor found herself all alone in front of the net with a loose ball coming her way.  Thakoordyal came up to try and pick up the loose ball but Azor beat her to it, ran past her, and then netted an easy goal.

CCNY improves to 1-1, 1-0 in the CUNY Athletic Conference, while York falls to 0-1, 0-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference.  The Lady Cardinals will return to action on Saturday when they host the College of Staten Island at 11:00 a.m.
