Late Goal Gives Mount Saint Vincent Win Over York Women’s Soccer

BOX SCORE

JAMAICA, NY—The second goal of the game by the College of Mount Saint Vincent's Gabriella Astorino, with just over eight minutes remaining, gave the Dolphins a 2-1 victory over the York College women's soccer team in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon.

Astorino took a pass from Laura Carr near the edge of the goalie box and rifled a shot in the top-right corner to give the Dolphins a 2-1 advantage in the 82nd minute.  Earlier in the second half, in the 54th minute, Astorino tied the match up when she lofted a shot from 40 yards deep that just snuck in just under the cross bar.

York held the early advantage when Perla Espinosa chipped a shot over the goalies head and into goal in the 18th minute of play.  The Cardinals held on to the lead for the first half and seemed to be in control of the contest until the second half.

With the loss, York drops to 1-5, while the Dolphins improves to 2-5.  York will visit CCNY on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
