Women’s Volleyball Loses to Lehman but Tops Pratt in Five Sets
JAMAICA, NY—The York College women's volleyball team split a twin bill Tuesday evening, dropping the opening match to Lehman College 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) but bouncing back to defeat Pratt Institute in a five-setter by the score of 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-8).

Lehman outperformed York in several key statistical categories, picking up 32 kills compared to 13 for York, while also serving up 15 aces, compared to York's three. Geri-Ann Martin led the Lightning with ten kills and 15 digs, while Jennifer Winkler added seven kills and eight digs.
York was led by
Sharon Fordyce, who had four kills (.231 hitting percentage) and five digs.
Stayce Kay Muirhead registered five blocks on the evening.
Pratt Recap I Box Score
York dominated statistically in the contest but allowed Pratt to hang around after letting the second and fourth sets get away from them. York held a 23-20 advantage in the second set but Pratt rallied to score five unanswered to even the match at one set apiece.
York picked up its play in the third set, hitting at .a 263 percentage and blocking three shots, while Pratt hit -.056 in the set. However, Pratt once again rallied to even the score at two sets apiece. In the fifth set, it was all Cardinals though, as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead and never looked back.
Fordyce once again led York with nine kills, three aces and four blocks. Muirhead also picked up nine kills and added two aces.
Pamela Yap recorded a career-high 29 assists, while also adding six digs. Libero
Laureen Cay Oliver had 12 digs, while
Angeline Palma and
Antenieka Burton each had eight digs.
York (3-11) will be idle until Friday when they visit Sarah Lawrence College at 7:30 p.m.
