PURCHASE, NY— The 2011 season opener for the York College men's soccer team did not go as well as hoped as the Cardinals fell to Manhattanville College by a score of 7-0.  The Valiants Eros Olazabal had a big day, recording five goals and an assist on the afternoon.

The Valiants wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, tallying the first goal of the game in the sixth minute when Eros Olazabal took a cross from Erick Olazabal and volleyed the ball into the net.

The score remained the same until the 29th minute, when Eros Olazabal struck once again, this time taking a York defender one-on-one and beating the keeper.  Eros Olazabal then quickly continued the trend, picking up a hat trick in the 33rd minute when he took a cross and rifled a shot into the top left corner of the net.  The Valiants would take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

The second half started similar to the way the first half ended, with Olazabal picking up his fourth tally of the game in the 51st minute.  The Valiants would add another goal in the 64th minute, this time off the foot of Marco Blasetti, though Olazabal still contributed on the play with an assist.  This started a flurry of goals by the Valiants.  Over the next two minutes, Manhattanville added two more goals, with another coming from Olazabal—his fifth of the contest to make the final score 7-0.

With the loss, York falls to 0-1 on the season.  They will have another tough task ahead of them as they visit the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy—who advanced the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships last season—on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
