Men’s Tennis Edged by USMMA
KINGS POINT, NY – The York College men's tennis team was narrowly defeated by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon, losing by a score of 5-4.
In doubles play, York dropped the first and second flights before salvaging the third flight, when Hugo D'Oliveira and Iheanyi Agbor teamed up to defeat USMMA's Steven Fickler and Manny Tishler by an 8-1 score.
In singles play, Erick Giron picked up a hard fought 6-4, 4-6, (12-10) victory at fourth singles, while Oliveira also battled to win 4-6, 6-2, (10-4). Agbor also win at sixth singles by a score of 6-4, 6-4. However, USMMA took the remaining three flights to get the win.
With the loss, York drops to 0-2. They will return to action on Thursday when they host Webb Institute at 4:30 p.m.
