Women’s Volleyball Drops Tough Match to John Jay

NEW YORK, NY— The York College women's volleyball team lost a hard-fought match to John Jay College Tuesday evening by a score of 3-1 (25-14, 25-23, 13-25, 25-18).

 

It looked as if John Jay would run away with the match after they took the first set by a comfortable 25-14 margin.  However, the Lady Cardinals fought hard and nearly took the second set.  John Jay held a 24-20 lead, but York was able to fight off three set points before an attack error by York gave the Bloodhounds the narrow victory in the second set.

 

York built off their strong second set and dominated set #3, winning 25-13 but John Jay rebounded to win the fourth set and take the match.

 

York was led by Maria Suero-Santos, who finished with a team-high nine kills, to go along with seven digs. Shauneille Sinanan added five digs, while libero Pamela Yap digged 11 balls and served up six aces.  

 

John Jay was led by Rosmery Martinez who recorded a match-high 11 kills and Crystal Reyes who finished with 21 assists. 

 

York falls to 3-9, 1-4 in the CUNYAC and John Jay improves to 2-10, 2-3 in the CUNYAC.  York will visit Cheyney University for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
