Women’s Volleyball Falls in Four to Lehman

BRONX, NY— Despite having its strongest hitting performance of the season, the York College women's volleyball team fell to Lehman College 3-1 (25-18, 25-8, 21-25, 25-13) on Tuesday evening.
Although the Lady Cardinals hit well on the night, the Lightning hit even better, recording 41 kills to York's 23. They also served up 19 aces, compared to 11 for York. That proved to be the difference in the match.
After dropping the first two sets without much of a fight, York was able to battle in the third to force a fourth set. A kill by Shaunielle Sinanan wrapped up the third set with an exclamation point. However, Lehman returned to its early form in the fourth set, winning comfortably by a score of 25-13.
Despite the loss, Evelyn Florentino put in a solid game for York, recording a team-high six kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Maria Suero-Santos added five kills and six digs and Pamela Yap finished the night with four kills and ten digs.
Lehman was led by Geri-Ann Martin who had a match-high 12 kills and Lisa Jagdeo who led all players with 19 digs.
York will look to get back on track when host St. Joseph's College and SUNY Old Westbury in tri-match on Saturday. York will battle Old Westbury at 11:00 a.m. and St. Joseph's at 3:00 p.m.
