Women’s Volleyball Falls to Medgar Evers and Baruch at Multi-Match

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the CUNY Athletic Conference multi-match held at York College Saturday. The Lady Cardinals lost to Baruch College 3-0 (25-4, 25-22, 25-6) in the opening match and then fell to Medgar Evers College (25-17, 25-15, 25-20).

The Bearcats cruised through the first set, winning 25-4. However, in the second set, the Lady Cardinals battled throughout, taking a brief 11-10 lead midway through the set. Later in the set, with York trailing 24-19, the Lady Cardinals rolled off four straight points to cut the lead to 24-22. However the late rally would stop there, as the Bearcats picked up a kill to end the set and take a 2-0 advantage. Baruch built off the momentum from there and won the third set easily, 25-6.
Maria Suero-Santos led York with four kills, while Pamela Yap recorded a match-high six digs. Miryam Candela picked up 10 assists and five digs. Baruch's Brittany Sorensen scored a match-high six kills to lead the Bearcats.
Medgar Evers Recap
The Lady Cardinals struggled with hitting errors throughout the contest and that proved to be the difference in the game. The Cougars also picked up 25 kills compared to just nine for York.
The Cougars Charita Henry led all players with 11 kills, while Lennis Noralez added seven kills and a match-high ten digs. York was led by Sharon Fordyce who banged three kills. Pamela Yap led York with five digs.
York, 0-4, 0-2 in the CUNYAC, will visit City Tech on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
