Box Score

JAMAICA, NY— York College sophomore Kadisha Wickham recorded a career-high 35 points, while also grabbing 20 rebounds and adding four steals but the Cardinals came up just short, falling to conference-rival the College of Staten Island, 69-68, on Wednesday evening.

With the scored tied at 65-65 and 1:30 to play in the game, the Lady Cardinals were presented with a golden opportunity to win the game.  Staten Island was called four a foul, sending the Lady Cardinals to the free throw line. CSI coach Marguerite Moran protested the call and was called for a technical foul, giving York four consecutive free throws.  However, York could only make one of four shots, which allowed the Dolphins to stay in the game.

On CSI's next possession, Kristen Panariello was fouled and converted both free throws.  On the ensuing York possession, the Lady Cardinals turned the ball over, giving the Dolphins the ball back with 28 seconds to play.  CSI was fouled and made two more free throws to take a three-point lead (69-66). Wickham converted a put-back for York on its next possession but only one second remained on the clock.  CSI then threw the ball in and time expired.

In the first half, York led by as many as eight points but the Dolphins closed in on the lead and eventually tied the game when Danielle McLaughlin hit a three-pointer as time expired.  In the second half, York held a six-point lead midway through the half but CSI was able to tie the game once again, before winning in the final minute.

Also contributing for York in the loss was Maimouna Dabo who scored 12 points and grabbed six boards.  Elizabeth Padilla added seven points off the bench.  The Dolphins were led by McLaughlin who had 18 points. Caitlyn Johnson added 15, while Mallory Ameneiros finished with 13.

With the loss, York drops to 10-11, 5-5 in the CUNYAC, while the Dolphins improve to 11-9, 8-2 in the CUNYAC.  The Lady Cardinal will look to bounce back on Friday when they host Medgar Evers College at 6:00 p.m.
