Men’s Soccer Falls in Overtime to Baruch, 4-3

QUEENS, NY— The York College men's soccer team lost a heartbreaking match to conference rival Baruch College, losing 4-3 in overtime Saturday afternoon.
Baruch's Stefan Cocea, who also tied the match in regulation, scored the golden goal off a corner kick from Andreas Hanson in the 97th minute to give Baruch the victory.
The two teams traded goals throughout regulation. York opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Rachidi Amadou scored off a rebound to put York up 1-0. Baruch responded in the 23rd minute off a rebound as well to even the score up at 1-1.
Just under two minutes later, York retook the lead when Richard Amponsah set up Menard Millus who beat the keeper to give York a 2-1 advantage. Once again, however, Baruch got the equalizer, netting a goal in the 31st minute, when Jason Lopez scored on a free kick from 26 yards out. The game stayed tied at 2-2 going into halftime.
In the second half, York took its third lead of the contest, when Millus scored again in the 64th minute. The Cardinals defense held strong until the 83rd minute when Cocea scored his first goal of the match, to even the score for the third time and ultimately send the match into overtime.
With the loss, York falls to 3-7-2 overall, 2-3-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference, while Baruch ups its record to 8-4-1, 6-2 in the CUNYAC.
York will return to action on Wednesday, when they host Medgar Evers College at 4:00 p.m.
