Results
The York College women's tennis team saw its playoff run come to an end Friday afternoon, as they fell to Baruch College, 5-0, in the semifinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference/ HSS Championships.
It was a great run for the Lady Cardinals squad as they finished the regular season as the #3 seed and advanced to the semifinals in just their second season of existence.
York quickly fell behind 3-0 after doubles play. The Lady Cardinals had an opportunity to take third doubles when Tenzin Kunchok and Anna Ko led 7-5, needing one more game to take the match. However, Baruch's, Ana Komar and Natasha Gregorio rallied to win the final four games and take the match 9-7. It was the first time Ko and Kunchok lost against a conference opponent this season.
In singles play, Baruch's Kristine Kraujina defeated York's Allana Wilson 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and Komar bested Nina Olladikankwu 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles to clinch the win.
With the loss, York falls to 8-9 on the season. Baruch will take on Hunter College in the finals on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
York may have one more match remaining in the 2010 season. They need to make up a rained out match with the College of New Rochelle from earlier in the season. The makeup date has not been announced.
