Box Score
JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's soccer team overcame deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 and scored six second half goals to earn a wild 6-3 victory over Berkeley College (NJ) in its regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon.
Thing looked bleak for York as they trailed 3-1 with 30 minutes remaining in the contest, but York went on a remarkable scoring spree, netting five goals in the final 28 minutes of action.
Menard Millus got things started for York, when he took a pass from Hugo Cicanois and beat the goalie on the right side to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 62nd minute.
15 minutes later, York's Rachidi Amadou was fouled in the goalie box and the Cardinals were awarded a penalty kick. Richard Amponsah took the kick and rifled the ball past the goalie to knot the score up at 3-3.
From there things got really crazy, as York netted three goals in the final 11 minutes of play. Jonathan Ushyarov gave York the lead after scoring an unassisted goal in the 79th minute. Just two minute later, Brian Broadbelt found the net on a free kick to make it 5-3. Ogundele Oluwaseun then capped off the scoring with a goal in the 86th minute.
Berkeley got off to a 2-0 advantage in the first half and looked like they had the match under control. John Machado put the Knights on the board after Ramon Arce set him up for an open look in front of the net. Arce then put Berkeley up 2-0 in the 38th minute when he scored an unassisted goal.
York cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second half, when Roy Rambarran picked up a rebound after a shot by Amadou and put York on the board. However, the Knights quickly responded ten minutes later when Johnny Campos lofted a shot out of the goalie's reach to take a 3-1 lead.
With the win, York's record now stands at 6-8-2. Berkeley falls to 4-7. York, who has earned a home match in the quarterfinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships, will wait to hear who its opponent will be. The match will take place on Wednesday, October 27th at a time to be announced.
