Lady Cardinals Rally to Beat New Rochelle

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women's volleyball team rallied after dropping the first two sets to defeat the College of New Rochelle by a score of 3-2 (26-28, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-10) Friday evening.

 

York dropped the first two sets by the narrowest of margins, losing each set by two points.  York hung tough however and took the next to games to force a deciding fifth set.

 

In the final set, the Lady Cardinals quickly jumped out to a 6-1 lead thanks to some strong serving by Miryam Candela.  The Blue Angels would eventually cut the deficit to three points (12-9) but York took three of the final four points to finish the comeback.

 

Freshman Sharon Fordyce had one of her best matches of the season, recording 12 kills and a .391 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks.  Emely Vasquez added ten kills and 11 digs, while Candela finished the match with 24 assists and 15 digs.  Pamela Yap also picked up 15 digs at libero.

 

With the win, York improves to 5-14 on the season.  They will host CCNY on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
