Bears Tame Lady Cardinal Bats; Sweep Doubleheader from York

BROOKLYN, NYSt. Joseph's College pitching held the York College softball team to just four hits and no runs over two games as the Lady Cardinals were swept in a doubleheader, losing 3-0 in game one and 8-0 in the nightcap.

Game One Recap

York pitcher Renita Raghubir pitched well over six innings, scattering six hits, striking out four and allowing just two earned runs.  It was her strongest performance of the season but it would not be enough as the York offense failed to provide run support.

St. Joseph's plated the first run of the game in the second inning after a York error with two outs brought home Jackie Marinello from second base.  The score would remain the same until the bottom of the fifth, when St. Joseph's Jillina Troise scored from third on a wild pitch, once again with two outs.  The Lady Bears then added a run in the sixth on an RBI single for an insurance run.

St. Joseph's Lisa Scheer went the distance, striking out 11, while allowing just two hits and walking none.  Shanay Patalano and Meriem Alahiane got the only two hits for York.

Game Two Recap

York pitcher Wisam Mohammed allowed just two hits and struck out seven over four innings, but she struggled with her control and the Lady Cardinal defense committed five errors.  The combination of the two allowed St. Joseph's to plate eight runs through the first three innings of play.

St. Joseph's pitcher Alyson Chiaramonte tossed five innings, allowed two hits and struck out ten to lead the Lady Bears.

St. Joseph's improves to 8-6, while York falls to 0-9.  The Lady Cardinals will host the College of Staten Island on Wednesday.
