Brooklyn Pulls Away in Second Half; Tops York 73-60

BROOKLYN, NY— The York College women's basketball team dropped its CUNY Athletic Conference opener to Brooklyn College by a score of 73-60 Tuesday evening.  After a tightly contested first half, the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run early in the second half and never looked back. 

 

Brooklyn's Priscilla Ramirez led all scorers with 18 points, while also grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out six assists.  Ariel Smith added 17 points, while Amber Gorden paced the Bulldogs with 11 points.

 

York was led once again by Kadisha Wickham, who recorded her second straight double-double, scoring 15 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and also swiping six steals.  Maimouna Dabo added 13 points and April Jones paced York with 11 points. 

 

The Lady Cardinals trailed by only four points just after the start of the second half but the 10-0 run put York in a hole they could not get out off.  Ramirez scored five points during the stretch including a three-point play.  The Lady Cardinals could not get within single digits the rest of the way.

 

The Bulldogs shot a solid 48 percent from the field compared to York's 33 percent and also outrebounded the Lady Cardinals by a 43-37 margin.  

 

With the loss, York falls to 3-3, 0-1 in the CUNYAC, while Brooklyn improves to 2-3, 1-0 in the CUNYAC.  York will travel to William Patterson on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
