JAMAICA, NY— Sophomore forward Kadisha Wickham scored 21 points, grabbed 12 boards and made six steals to lead the York College Lady Cardinals to a 55-48 victory over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday Evening.
York jumped out to an early ten-point advantage after Wickham converted a lay-up, making the score 18-8 with 9:37 to play in the half. The Mariners would rally, however, as they scored the final eight points of the half to go into the locker room with the scored tied 26-26.
The game would turn back in the Lady Cardinals favor in the second half. York converted a trio of three-pointers within a two minute span to take a 39-28 lead with 9:48 to play. Freshman Vanessa Rivera made two of them, while senior Jamie Mohan connected on the other.
The Mariners would rally once again and cut the lead to just three points after a three-pointer by Rebecca Grimes made it 51-48 in favor of York with 27 seconds to play. USMMA had a chance to tie the game on its next possession but Wickham came up with a steal to seal the win for York.
With the win, York improves to 3-2, while USMMA falls to 2-2. York will return to action on December 1 when they visit Brooklyn College at 5:30 p.m.
