Baruch Pulls Away for Win over Lady Cardinals

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women’s basketball team fell to Baruch College, 90-69, in a City University of New York Athletic Conference match-up Thursday evening. The Lady Cardinals kept the game tight against the defending CUNYAC champions in the first half, but a second-half run by the Bearcats put the game out of reach for York.
Baruch jumped out to a fast start taking a 10-0 lead before Elizabeth Padilla (Brooklyn, NY/ Bushwick) got York on the board with a lay-up at the 16:36 mark of the first half. The Lady Cardinals went on a 7-2 run and closed the lead to 12-7 after another Padilla bucket with 15:02 to play in the half.
Later in the half, Baruch extended their lead to 12 points, 25-13, on a Monique Salmon lay-up with 9:45 left before halftime. However, York would finish the half strong, and closed to within six points, 43-37, as the game reached halftime. Padilla led the charge with 14 first-half points.
That would be as close as York would get for the rest of the game. The Bearcats pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Lady Cardinals 47-32. With the score, 50-40 and 16:26 to go in the game, the Bearcats exploded for a 14-0 run to take a 64-40 lead. York could only get as close as 17 points the rest of the way.
Kaleia Davis turned in a huge game for Baruch, scoring 19 points and grabbing 17 rebounds, while also recording five steals. Latesha Reddick also recorded a double-double netting 15 points and pulling down ten rebounds. Karlee Whipple also added 14 points.
For the Lady Cardinals, Padilla was shutout in the second half but still recorded a team-high 14 points. Senior Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) finished with 13 points, while Samantha Marsala (Coram, NY/ Longwood) and Chiquita Greene (Brooklyn, NY/ Harry Van Arsdale) each had nine points.
Baruch improves to 4-1, 2-0 in the CUNYAC, while York falls to 0-3, 0-2 in the CUNYAC.
