Box Score
NEWARK, NJ – The York College women’s basketball fell to Rutgers-Newark, 52-27 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up.
The Lady Cardinals had trouble offensively putting the basketball in the hoop the entire game. The Cardinals finished the game shooting just 17% from the field and 5% from the three-point mark.
After a sloppy four minutes to the start of the game, Rutgers-Newark gained composure and rattled off eleven straight points capped off by a lay-up from Jared Tactuk that would extend the lead to 13 -2.
A Maimouna Dabo (Bamako, Mali / Lycee Notre Dame du Niger) jumper for York at 12:08 on the clock in the first half would stop the cold streak to make the score 13-4. However, the offensive struggles would continue because the next two points scored by the Cardinals would not occur until 7:15 left before half-time. The Scarlet Raiders would continue to control the game and took a 30-13 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Raiders kept building on their lead. Scarlet Raider Jayne Lin Jones connected on a three pointer with 9:09 left in the game that would extend the lead to 40 – 24. The Lady Cardinals would score only on two possessions the rest of the game; a foul shot from Kadisha Wichman (Brooklyn, NY / HJ Robinson) and a jump shot from Dabo.
The Scarlet Raiders had a balanced attack with three players scoring in double figures. Tactuk led the charge with a team-high 15 points. Renee Edwards and Tamara Trotz both contributed with 11 points each.
Dabo scored a team-high nine points and had three steals for the Cardinals. Niya Jarvis (Bronx, NY / Talent Unlimited) contributed with six points and four steals.
The Cardinals will return to action 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20 at home against Old Westbury.
