York Drops Heartbreaker to Manhattanville on Senior Day

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women’s volleyball team nearly overcame a 2-0 deficit but dropped the deciding set and fell to Manhattanville College 3-2 (25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 16-14) on Monday evening. In addition, the senior members of the Lady Cardinals, Christina Lopez (S. Ozone Park, NY/ John Adams), Ashley Willock (Valencia, Trinidad/ Law and Gov.) and Rochelle Bourne (Christ Church, Barbados/ Lester Vaughn) were recognized during the game.
After falling behind 2-0, the Cardinals turned up their play and evened the score at 2-2. The final set went back and forth as each team exchanged points. York fought off a match point at 14-13 but a kill by Manhattanville’s Damaris Morales finished off the exciting contest.
For York, Shanine Bogan (Brooklyn, NY/ Clara Barton) and Irma Ruilova (Cuenca, Ecuador/ Newcomers) each had a team-high eight kills and Charlina Gallegos (Mexico City, MX/ Hillcrest) had 23 assists. Meanwhile, Willock capped off senior day with a season-high 33 digs for the Lady Cardinals. Lopez also added nine digs and five kills, while Bourne and Pamela Lebron (Santo Domingo, DR/ Politenico Las Caobas) each had five block apiece.
For Manhattanville, Fiona Molloy recorded a match-high 20 kills to go along with 17 digs, while Xiu Carrasquillo had 37 assists and Ally Johnson had 24 digs.
York falls to 6-19, while Manhattanville improves to 7-22. The Lady Cardinals will return to action tomorrow when they visit Brooklyn College at 6:00 pm.
