York Women’s Basketball Falls to Baruch

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women’s basketball team fell to Baruch College 85-45 in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match-up on Thursday night. Playing in their first game since December 12, the Cardinals struggled against Baruch College, one of the top teams in the CUNYAC.
After York took an early 2-0 lead on a lay-up by Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet), Baruch went on a 15-0 run to go up 15-2 with 12:41 left before halftime. The Bearcats would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game. The Bearcats extended their lead to 47-20 going into the locker room and continued to extend their lead in the second half.
Despite the loss, Maeweather had a game high 18 points for York. Chiquita Greene (Bronx, NY/ Harry Van Arsdale) added eight points to go along with 11 rebounds.
Baruch got 17 points from both Kaleia Davis and Karlee Whipple. Overall four players scored in double-figures for the Bearcats who improved to 10-4, 4-0 in the CUNYAC.
York falls to 4-8, 2-1 in the CUNYAC.
York will visit Staten Island on Saturday at noon.
