ROCHESTER, NY— Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/ Campus Magnet) scored a game-high 24 points but it was not enough as the York College women’s basketball team fell 80-63 to Pitt-Bradford in the consolation game of the Courtyard-Pennfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Maeweather shot 10-22 from the field and 4-10 from three-point range, while also making four steals on defense. In addition, she was named to the all-tournament team.
After falling behind 38-25 with 4:03 remaining in the first half, the Lady Cardinals went on a 15-2 run to tie the game at 40-40 with 32 seconds remaining. Maeweather had 10 of her 24 points during the run. However, Pitt-Bradford would go into the locker room with a 41-40 lead.
In the second half, York took an early 43-41 advantage thanks to a three-pointer by Jamie Mohan (Bellmore, NY/ Mepham) with 18:43 remaining. However the lead would be short lived as Pitt-Bradford would go on a 10-0 run following Mohan’s three-pointer. Pitt-Bradford did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.
Chiquita Greene (Brooklyn, NY/ Harry Van Arsdale) finished with nine points and Elizabeth Padilla (Brooklyn, NY/ Bushwick) and Maimouna Dabo each scored eight points to pace York. Niya Jarvis (Bronx, NY/ Talent Unlimited) led the Cardinals with eight rebounds.
York, 0-2, will play its home opener on Tuesday against the Merchant Marine Academy. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
