Kathleen DeRienzo

Kathleen DeRienzo joined York College in 2022-23 as assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach. She recently her fourth season coaching the men's and women's tennis programs.

On a CUNYAC level, DeRienzo has influenced three CUNYAC Men's Tennis Sportsmanship Award winners (Jagvir Hoonjan, 2023; Abubakar Khamis, 2024; and Firdaus Abdulai, 2026), and a pair of CUNYAC Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Award recipients (Emperatriz Cesar, 2023; and Maryam Khan, 2024). She has also overseen the nomination of Abubakar Khamis to the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team in 2025, and the duo of Emperatriz Cesar (2022) and Franeidy Mauricio (2025) to the CUNYAC Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Team. 

DeRienzo played tennis at the NCAA Division II level at Queens  College. During her career with the Knights, DeRienzo played first singles and doubles, while garnering team MVP and All Conference from 1981-85. DeRienzo graduated from Queens as a double major in nutrition and food service management.

From 2010-17, DeRienzo was a consultant and buyer at the Port Washington Tennis Academy. DeRienzo coached ITF Circuit Professional Players and was a Division I scholarship athlete manager from 2006-19.

Since 1992, DeRienzo has served as the fund administrator for the Uniformed Firefighters Association & Uniformed Fire Officers Association Welfare Fund.  From 1986-92, DeRienzo worked for the Department of Transportation-Parking Violations Bureau as the director of human resources. 

Hailing from Bayside, DeRienzo resides in the Douglaston section of Queens, and is a proud parent to son, Alex, and daughter, Katie.
