John Baxter serves as the Director or Aquatics, Recreation and Intramurals at York College.
At York, Baxter’s primary function is to coordinate the aquatic, recreation, and intramural programs. He is also in charge of the athletic facilities at York. Baxter teaches swimming along with CPR and First Aid to York instructors and employees. Baxter also trains the Physician Assistant students at York in CPR and First Aid.
In his 16 years at York, Baxter has helped increase student awareness of York’s aquatics and intramural programs. There has been a significant increase in the student participation. Baxter helped create successful basketball, volleyball and flag football intramural programs.
Baxter was hired at York in March of 2001 after spending time at Riverbank State Park, Borough of Manhattan Community College and Steinway Children and Family Services.
As the manager of Physical Education, Aquatics and Fitness Programs at Riverbank State Park, Baxter took on managing park programs for local community hosted events. While at Borough of Manhattan Community College, Baxter worked in the Health and Physical Education department and taught swimming and health classes as an adjunct professor. During his time at Steinway Children and Family Services, Baxter worked in the health education department. He organized monthly workshops and exercise groups for HIV positive patients.
Baxter graduated from York with a double degree in Physical Education and Health Education.
