York College has selected Cenzo Rossi as assistant sports information director ahead of the 2022-23 academic year.

“I am very excited to take the next step in my career at York College.   I want to thank assistant director of athletics for external relations/sports information director Harris Rappel for this opportunity. I look forward to serving the York student-athletes, coaches, and the community to the best of my ability.” - said Rossi.

Graduating from Davidson College in May 2022 with a BA in History and a minor in Economics, a passion for and knowledge of sports has driven Rossi’s academic and career goals. At Davidson, Rossi worked with the college’s analytical department for two years, producing opposition scouting reports for coaches of the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Additionally, Rossi wrote for the school newspaper, The Davidsonian, profiling women’s volleyball, tennis, soccer, lacrosse, and men’s golf. During the 2021-22 academic year, Rossi refereed intramural flag football and basketball, adjudicating the men’s basketball championship game.

“We are excited to welcome Cenzo to the Cardinal family. His background covering athletics made him stand out as a great fit from the qualified candidate pool.  Cenzo will bring creativity to the position that will be sure to amplify the student-athlete experience.”- said Rappel.

In the classroom, Rossi has centered much of his research in history and economics around sports. Projects include conducting a regression analysis to determine if starting pitchers’ performances improved during their contract year. During his history ventures, Rossi wrote about the “Dark Ages” of the NBA in the 1970s and how the rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird and Michael Jordan’s immediate popularity helped fans regain interest after a period of drug use and on-court fighting. Rossi also devoted his senior capstone paper to writing about Negro Leaguers playing in Latin America during the winter and the legacies they created in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

As a native New Yorker, Rossi has interned at Jigsaw Productions on a documentary about Tiger Woods. Keeping it sports-related, in summer 2021, he wrote over twenty-five articles for the upstart sports publication, The Jersey Column. Keeping up with trending topics, his sports knowledge will translate seamlessly into his new role as sports information assistant.
