Kiara Gonzalez ‘22 joins York College as assistant softball coach ahead of the 2023 season.

“To return to the softball program as assistant coach means the love and loyalty I have for the game, the coach and the team. I am also eager to see and experience what the other side of the fence is like, learning the game on another level and just continuing the legacy.” - said Gonzalez

Gonzalez, who graduated from York in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, played shortstop and pitched during her lone season with the Cardinals in 2022.  As the softball newcomer of the year award recipient, Gonzalez started in all 18 games for York, including three starts as a pitcher with two complete games.  Gonzalez also competed as a member of the women’s volleyball team for three seasons (2018-19, 21), compiling 217 digs, 166 sets, 56 points and 24 aces in 44 matches.  She was recognized as a 2021 CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team selection, and also garnered team awards ranging from Rookie of the Year (2018) and Most Outstanding Player (2021).

“I am excited to have Kiara join our Cardinal family as assistant coach.  She will bring lots of energy and competitiveness to the program.  As a recent graduate and player, she is familiar with the program and team.  Kiara was previously coached in high school by a York softball and volleyball alum, Latonia Dalhouse.  I look forward to seeing her growth in her role and beyond” said head softball coach Tracey Marshall

Hailing from Brooklyn, Gonzalez attended Northside Charter High School.
