Carl Summerlin

Carl Summerlin enters his third year as Head Men's Tennis Coach and second year as Head Women's Tennis Coach in the 2017-18 school year.

Under Summerlin's guidance, the men's tennis team has truly embodied the meaning of being a student-athlete.  The team has won York's Team Academic award both in 2016 and 2017 for having the highest overall grade point average.

Summerlin brings plenty of tennis experience to the program. From 2011-2014, Summerlin was the head coach for the women’s team at Long Island University-Post, where he improved every year, including two trips to the East Coast Conference Championships in 2013 and 2014.

Aside from coaching, Summerlin has been involved with tennis for the last 20 years. Currently, he is a United States Tennis Association Eastern Executive Board Member Nominating Chair. Since 2003, he has been the director and head coach at Springfield Park Tennis, and since 2007, Summerlin has been the President and CEO of the Queens Long Island Junior Tennis League, Inc. and CEO of SummTennis, LLC.

During a 13-year span from 1997-2010, Summerlin was a Multicultural Representative for the USTA Eastern. Prior to this position, USTA recognized him with the Eastern Volunteer of the Year (1996). He also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the women’s team at St. John’s University for one season in 2004-05.

Away from the tennis court, Summerlin began a career as a police officer back in 1974 up until 2008. Also up to 2008, and beginning in 1993 he served on the Joint Terrorist Taskforce for the NYS Police Department and FBI. He also worked on various cases as a lead investigator for incidents such as the East Africa bombings and the World Trade Center attacks.
