NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College sophomore midfielder Derick Aboagye-Frimpong was selected to the eight-member 2026 CUNYAC Men's Soccer Preseason Player to Watch list, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Aboagye-Frimpong took the league by storm in 13 matches last season by scoring a team-leading six goals from midfield and adding three assists. 

A consistent offensive force, the Ghanaian native netted braces against Sarah Lawrence College (Sept. 17) and University Valley Forge (Sept. 24), earning him a pair of CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honors. During CUNYAC play, Aboagye-Frimpong generated goal contributions in four of the seven contests, spearheading the Cardinals to their best conference season since 2019. Overall, the all-action midfielder landed on the CUNYAC All-Conference First Team and claimed York College's Male Newcomer of the Year for his efforts. 

According to the coaches, York will finish seventh.

Lehman edges the poll with 44 points and six first-place nods, while Brooklyn  and Baruch  picked up the other two first-place selections. York finished seventh in the ballot with 13 points. The Cardinals' seven-match conference slate begins with a road meeting against Medgar Evers on September 17.

The 2026 CUNYAC Championship will take place on October 28 (first round), October 31 (semifinals), and November 7 (finals), with the league champion receiving an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

The Cardinals kick off the campaign Wednesday (Sept. 2) against Sarah Lawrence in a home non-conference matchup from York College Outdoor Athletic Complex starting at 3 p.m.
