LA PLUME, PA --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer kept the momentum rolling on Wednesday afternoon, battling through their third game in five days and emerging victorious in a 7–5 offensive showdown against the Keystone College Giants (0-5-1) from KC Turf Field Athletic Complex. Freshman
Stephanie Gonzalez put on a historic performance, shattering program records with seven goals, 14 points, and 12 shots on goal—breaking marks set by
Taylor Bellmon back in 2019 and powering the Cardinals to the thrilling non-conference win.
First-Half Breakdown
Gonzalez peppered the Keystone net early on and got her reward with the opening goal in the fifth minute. Victory Frantz equalized at 10:44 for the Giants. Swiftly responding, Gonzalez gave York a 2-1 lead 23 seconds later. Keystone could not be kept off the scoresheet for long, as Brooke Ferni's strike in the 17th minute made it 2-2. The former CUNYAC Rookie of the Week completed her first-career hat track with under 13 minutes left in the half. The Giants tied the contest for the third time at the 41:18 mark with Ferni's second goal. Gonzalez did not stop scoring, though, as she found the back of the net 56 seconds from kick off after slotting one home from
Alisha Adams.
Second-Half Breakdown
A more defensively oriented start to the half, both sides held each other to one shot on target in the first 15 minutes. In the 63rd minute, however, Sarah Koster bagged for Keystone, knotting the score at four. Gonzalez wouldn't be kept off the scoresheet for long, putting the ball in the back of the net in the 70th and 74th minutes. Her goal in the 74th minute was her first career game-winner, giving York a 6-4 edge. It is not like she solely focused on defending, bagging her program-record seventh score at the 87:23 mark. Keystone scored the final goal of the match 128 seconds from the full-time whistle to bring the score to 7-5. In addition to the offensive heroics,
Amaniya Aiken (2-4-0) came in clutch for York with eight second-half stops.
Inside the Box Score
In addition to York's seven goals, the team recorded a season-high 22 shots and 18 attempts on goal. On the other end, Keystone totaled 24 shots and matched the Cardinals' number of 18 shots on goal. Aiken added 13 saves to her ledger, and Bryant (0-4-1) stopped 11 shots.
