Rookie Standout Lefebvre Drops Double-Double as @yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball Opens CUNYAC Play against Brooklyn

York College travels Saturday (Sept. 20) for a non-conference matchup against St. Joseph’s University (L.I.)

JAMAICA, NY--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball returned to home court Thursday evening to open CUNYAC play against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (3-4, 1-0 CUNYAC), showing early energy before the visitors seized momentum and closed out a straight-set decision (25-13, 25-9, 25-9) inside York College Gymnasium.

First Set Breakdown 
  • A kill from York's Zia Lefebvre leveled the score at seven. 
  • Aces by Amra Mulic and Anna Friedman sparked a 6-1 Cougar surge, boosting the margin to five (13-8).
  • The Cardinals claimed three unanswered points to trim the deficit to two (13-11).
  • Buoyed by a trio of aces from Mila Servania, Brooklyn utilized a 9-0 burst to extend the advantage to 22-11.
  • Dinora Gomez's ace clinched the 25-13 scoreline.
Second Set Breakdown 
  • An early ace by York's Madison Plaza knotted the stanza at two.
  • The Cougars steadily created separation, with Rhianna Marrero's ace giving them a five-point lead (10-5).
  • A pair of aces from Mulic capped off a 10-3 spurt for Brooklyn to go up 13 (20-8).
  • Friedman served out the 25-9 result with two aces.
Third Set Breakdown 
  • Jaymie Mateo authored a kill for the Cardinals to make it 3-2, which was the closest margin the rest of the way.
  • Putting the pedal to the metal, the Cougars responded with a 10-0 stretch to make it 13-2.
  • York pulled within 10 points (16-6) following a Brooklyn attack error.
  • Not slipping up, the Cougars finished the match on a 9-3 spurt, capped off by a smackdown from Meadow Andrews. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Lefebvre generated a match-best 10 kills and 14 digs. 
  • Plaza tallied two kills and one ace.
  • Mateo smacked down a kill and Shaday Torres registered an ace.
  • Deputizing as the setter, Simranjit Kaur distributed a career-high nine assists. 
For Rutgers-Newark
  • Friedman served a match-leading six aces to go along with four kills. 
  • Danielle Fuxman spiked down seven kills on an efficient .278 rate.
  • Gomez added four aces and scooped up a team-high nine digs.
  • Marrero (6) and Magnolia Revilla (9) combined for 15 assists. 
Inside the Box Score
York attacked at a -.214 rate on 70 swings. Brooklyn generated a .189 attack percentage on only 53 attempts. The Cougars also had the advantage in points (41-17), kills (18-13), aces (20-3), assists (16-11), digs (29-24), and total blocks (4-1).
