York College’s Dawa Bhote and Maryam Khan are two of the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced that York College seniors Dawa Bhote and Maryam Khan are two of 580 NCAA Division III honorees named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Women's Tennis Academic All-District® Team.

This distinction recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

Bhote and Khan are two of six CUNYAC student-athletes named to the Academic All-District® Women's Tennis Team.

Residing in the Jamaica section of Queens, Khan has played three seasons (2022-24) with the women's tennis program, competing in 21 singles and doubles matches. Appearing on the No. 3-6 singles courts and in all three doubles positions, Khan posted doubles wins in each of her three seasons and claimed victories twice during the 2023 season in third and sixth singles. Capping off her career, the senior partnered with Seunga Jeong to defeat Brooklyn College's Nora Zhu and Oleksandra Shablii (8-3) on the No. 3 court and took Sophia Kebadze to a super tiebreaker on the No. 4 level. In her time at York, Khan was selected as a 2023 CUNYAC Women's Tennis Preseason Player to Watch, claimed two York College Women's Tennis Coaches Awards, and took home the 2024 CUNYAC Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Award.

Outside the court, Khan has constructed a 3.772 grade-point average as a Nursing major. In addition to garnering a CSC Women's Tennis Academic All-District® Team spot for the second time, she has been cited on the Dean's List six times, is a three-time CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection, and was recently honored by the CUNYAC as a 2024-25 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention. Involved in student leadership, Khan has previously served in leadership roles as President of the York College Nursing Club, as a student advocate for NACLI (National Coalition Against Censorship), and as a club member of both Nursing and the CUNY Coalition for Students with Disabilities (CCSD).

Hailing from Elmhurst, New York, Bhote completed her second season with the women's tennis program. Voted as a 2024 CUNYAC Women's Tennis Preseason Player to Watch, she played in fifteen singles and doubles contests. A fixture on the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles courts, Bhote reached the No. 2 singles circuit four times, claiming a career-best six points at that level against John Jay College's Manuela Orrego in September. The senior's efforts this season earned her the York College Women's Tennis Most Outstanding Award. Graduating with a nursing degree, Bhote is a two-time CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and has been a member of the Dean's List on eight occasions. With this laurel, York College women's tennis now has three CSC All-District® Team members in the past two seasons.

Outstanding student-athletes nominated for Academic All-District® recognition must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the institution's total games.
