JAMAICA, NY -- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's tennis opened a three-match non-conference stretch Tuesday afternoon starting with a home encounter against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (5-5). The Cardinals battled throughout the match, but could not push past Sarah Lawrence in a 6-1 setback from York College Courts.
In doubles competition, the duo of
Sangay Yoezer and
Dylan Juela claimed two games on the No. 1 court. Playing together for the first time,
Josanne Williams and
Gabriela Pirondi collected two games at the No. 3 level.
Individually, Williams took home her first win on the men's circuit, triumphing 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 5 court. Additionally, Juela went to a 10-point tiebreak with a No. 4 singles matchup against Gavin Wright, ultimately falling 10-4.
Firdaus Abdulai won five total games at the No. 6 level.
