UNION, NJ -- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's tennis captured a victory at the top singles position on Monday evening, but the depth of the Kean University Cougars (7-3) proved to be too much, as the Cardinals ended their season with a 6-1 setback in non-conference play at the Alumni Stadium Tennis Courts in Union, New Jersey.

Kean grabbed early momentum by taking both doubles matches to secure the opening point.  York's top pair of Josanne Williams and Gabriela Pirondi showed resilience and gave Kean's #1 duo its toughest test in doubles, battling through several close games and keeping the match competitive before the Cougars ultimately closed it out 6-2.

At No. 2 doubles, Bisola Babanumi and Franeidy Mauricio worked hard to stay in the match but couldn't break through in a 6-0 defeat.

Despite the drawback, York found a highlight in Williams, who delivered a standout performance on the No. 1 singles court. After a competitive opening set, Williams found another gear in the second to defeat Kean's Ashley Mendoza-Tarazona in straight sets (6-3, 6-0).  

At No. 4 singles, Pirondi put up a strong fight, challenging Kean close in both sets before Emily Lari pulled away for a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Representing York, Babanumi fought hard at second singles, while Mauricio battled at third singles.
