York College returns home Saturday (Mar. 15) for a CUNYAC matchup against Baruch College

NEW YORK-- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball earned a CUNYAC road victory Thursday evening with a straight-set triumph (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) over the City College of New York Beavers (2-13, 1-7 CUNYAC) inside Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Cardinals' victory marked the completion of the CUNYAC sweep of CCNY for the first time since 2016. York gained momentum by posting a season-opening non-conference win over the Beavers, snapping a 12-match losing streak to CCNY that dated back to the 2017 campaign.

First Set Breakdown
  • A Kill by Alexis Ramirez gave York a 4-1 lead.
  • CCNY leveled the score at six following a 5-2 burst. 
  • Vincent Agokei's kill capped off a 5-1 run for the Cardinals, giving them an 11-7 edge.
  • Ahead 12-10, York utilized a 6-2 spurt to take a commanding six-point (18-12) advantage.
  • Controlling the rest of the period, a pair of spikes from Ramirez sealed a 25-16 scoreline.
Second Set Breakdown
  • Reng Chen's kill gave the Beavers a four-point margin (9-5).
  • Trailing 10-7, York claimed the next five points to lead 12-10. 
  • Both squads traded the following 14 points, with the Cardinals holding onto a 19-17 edge.

  • Stanley Sanchez orchestrated the offense with 31 assists. 
  • Ahmed Algendy scooped up a team-high 12 digs.
  • Agokei tallied York's lone block.
For CCNY
  • Nana Boateng had five kills and a match-best three aces. 
  • Chen contributed a team-leading six kills.
  • Mahmoud Tayeh totaled three solo blocks, and Brandon Green generated four kills.
  • Kyrylo Vysotskyy set up his teammates 15 times, and Alex Ma chipped in with five digs.
Inside the Box Score
York smacked 41 kills for a .280 swing percentage, its second-highest attack rate of the season. In contrast, the Beavers managed a .022 clip on 89 swings. Additionally, the Cardinals had the edge in assists (38-20) and digs (30-22). Both teams served five aces, and CCNY had more solo blocks (4-1).
