Alicia Gumbs was acknowledged Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II/III Honorable Mention selection for games played January 27-February 2. This distinction is her ninth-career MBWA weekly distinction and the third of this campaign.
Adding to her impressive offensive season, Gumbs averaged 24.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for York. Facing John Jay College (Jan. 28) on the road, the guard dropped a season-high 33 points, hauled in five rebounds, dished out a team-best five dimes, and tallied two steals. In a home encounter versus Medgar Evers College (Jan. 24), she netted 15 points and spun home the game-winning layup in a 45-44 triumph.
Over 15 games, the Queens native is averaging 21.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.2 steals, and 2.7 assists per game. The 1x CUNYAC All-Star has scored over 56% of the team's points, and she paces the squad in the points, steals, and assists categories. On a conference level, Gumbs ranks highly in points per game (4th), steals per game (4th), minutes (39.5, 2nd) per game, and free throws made (91, 3rd). Among all Division III players, she places fourth in minutes, 15th in points, and is tied for 25th in steals per game.
