www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball finalized their 2025 campaign Monday evening by holding the scoring advantage in all four quarters to claim a convincing 55-37 non-conference road win against the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers (0-25) inside Clark Athletic Center. Â
How it Happened
- Old Westbury took a quick 4-0 edge following Emma Rodriguez's jumper at the 7:13 mark of the first frame.
- A trio of free throws from Sakhmet Lewis extended the lead to five (7-2) with 3:18 remaining in the quarter.
- Tightening up its defense, York finished the first on a 5-0 burst, taking a 9-7 advantage into the second period.
- Points from four different scorers helped the Cardinals take a half-high six-point margin (18-12) at 5:38.
- Ahead 20-18 with 78 seconds left in the half, baskets from Ceanna Adams and Madison Plaza closed out a 24-18 halftime scoreline for York.
- Adams' jumper 2:27 into the third period gave the Cardinals their first double-digit advantage (28-18).
- The Panthers responded with an 8-2 burst to trim the deficit to four (30-26) at the 4:11 point of the quarter.
- York ended the stanza at 34-26 following buckets from Plaza and Tyla Hooks.
- Putting the contest away, the Cardinals began the fourth quarter with a 10-0 burst to go up 18 (44-26) with 7:05 showing on the clock.
- Never allowing Old Westbury any path back into the game, Gumbs' two free throws sealed a 55-37 victory.
Leading the Cardinals
- Gumbs netted 15 points (9-of-10 FT), seven rebounds, and a game-best five assists. She ends her career third in program history with 1,316 points.Â
- Plaza totaled 13 points.
- Beautiful Earth demonstrated her all-around skills with eight points (4-of-8 FG), 13 rebounds, and three steals.
- Inside, Hooks scored eight points and hauled in a game-leading 16 rebounds.
- Mancuso got in on the action with six points and a career-high 11 rebounds.Â
- Adams tallied a career-high five points.
For Old Westbury
- Lewis netted a team-best 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds and five steals.Â
- Rodriguez added 11 points and six rebounds.Â
- Brianne Belizaire contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.Â
- Shanya Hicks registered eight points and two swats.

York shot 29.7 percent (22-of-74) from the floor and a season-high 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the charity stripe. Tough Cardinal defense held Old Westbury to 22.8 percent (13-of-57) from the field and 20 percent (3-of-15) on three-point attempts. Controlling the pace of play, York grabbed a season-best 57 rebounds and only turned the ball over 11 times. In contrast, the Panthers hauled in 42 rebounds and totaled 18 follies that resulted in 20 Cardinal points. Additionally, York won the battle in assists (10-3) and steals (6-5).
