@yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball shows balanced scoring with four in double digits against Pratt

York College opens the 2026 slate on January 7 with a CUNYAC showdown on home court against CCNY

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball took the court for the final time in 2025 ahead of the break Saturday but saw its two-game win streak snapped, falling 86–78 to the Pratt Institute Cannoneers (6–3) in a non-conference matchup inside York College Gymnasium. The Cardinals chipped away from an early deficit but were unable to close the gap down the stretch.

How it Happened
  • Pratt got off to a strong start, opening the game with an 18–3 scoring run after knocking down seven of its first 11 shots.
  • The teams played evenly over the next 5:39, as York attacked the paint with six layups-four coming from Oke Okrokoto, cutting the deficit to 30–15.
  • The Cardinals were most productive down low, scoring 24 of their 31 points in the paint.
  • York later closed the half with a 16–6 spurt over the final 7:29, with Joshua Jackman, Jaidan Johnson, and Jonte Wallace each contributing four points to make it a 42-31 game heading into intermission.
  • Continuing momentum. York opened the second half with strong execution, putting together a 10–3 run to pull within 47-41 with 15:55 remaining.
  • The Cardinals continued to chip away, closing within 49–43 before Pratt answered with a brief push to rebuild an 11-point cushion at the 14:26 mark.
  • York answered once again, trimming the margin to five at 56–51 behind an 8–2 spurt that kept the momentum within reach.
  • Maintaining their composure, the Cardinals followed with another push, capped by a Bryce Haynes triple, to make it a 61–58 game with 10:21 remaining.
  • Later in the half, Jackman connected from beyond the arc to spark a personal five-point stretch, pulling York within two points, 70–68, with 5:49 remaining on the clock, the closest the Cardinals would get.
  • Despite York's strong second-half push, Pratt delivered timely baskets and key defensive stops down the stretch by scoring 16 of the game's final 26 points to hold on to its advantage.
