www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer broke the scoring ice in the 57th minute and the defense stood tall to secure a 1-0 road triumph Saturday afternoon over the Medgar Evers College Cougars (1-7-1, 0-2-0 CUNYAC) at Randall's Island Field 74, remaining unbeaten at 1-0-1 in CUNYAC play. It marks the program's best start to conference action since 2014, when York opened with back-to-back wins.
First-Half Breakdown
The Cardinals had the better chances early on, testing Cougar goalkeeper Clirian Nunez (0-6-1) twice in the first 21 minutes. Megdar Evers responded by forcing York netminder
Alexander Cruz (1-0-1) into three saves in the following five minutes of play. The frame ended scoreless, with each team totaling eight shots and four shots on goal.
Second-Half Breakdown
Derick Aboagye-Frimpong netted the opening goal at the 56:31, which marks his fifth goal of the season and second game-winning strike. Defensively sound, the Cardinals did not allow a shot until the 81st minute, with Cruz parrying Belco Gundeba's effort wide.
