York College hosts Saint Elizabeth University Thursday (Oct. 23)

NEW YORK--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball exchanged blows with the Baruch College Bearcats (7-13, 4-1 CUNYAC) in the first and third sets Tuesday evening, but ultimately fell in straight sets (25-17, 25-6, 25-19) in a CUNYAC encounter from ARC Arena.  

First Set Breakdown 
  • Two kills from Zia Lefebvre sparked an early 6-3 York edge.
  • Jasmine Dias extended the Cardinal advantage to five (10-5) following two aces.
  • Four aces by Mariajose Ortiz-Marmolejo sparked a 9-0 Baruch stretch to lead by four (14-10).
  • Smackdowns by Lefebvre, Dias, and Madison Plaza made it an 18-15 scoreline. 
  • Ahead 21-17, the Bearcats claimed the final four points for a 25-17 victory.
Second Set Breakdown 
  • Baruch continued its first-set momentum with a 13-1 start, capped off by Jennifer Dong's ace.
  • The teams split the ensuing 10 points, with the Bearcats maintaining their 12-point advantage (18-6). 
  • A pair of kills by Dong, paired with two aces from Tika Jones, facilitated a 7-0 burst to seal the second set.
Third Set Breakdown 
  • Even at two, Baruch took control with a 9-1 spurt to go ahead 11-3.
  • Roaring back, York utilized a 6-1 charge to trim the deficit to three (12-9).
  • The Bearcats responded with a 7-1 run to take a set-high nine-point edge (19-10).
  • Responding once again, two kills by Lefebvre and a pair of aces from Jaymie Mateo had the Cardinals within striking distance (22-19).
  • Baruch won the next three points to close out a 25-19 scoreline. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Lefebvre produced nine kills (.174 percentage), a match-high five digs, and the team's lone solo block.
  • Dias served a team-leading three aces and added two kills.
  • Plaza totaled two kills, and Mateo chipped in with two aces.
  • Samantha Panameno orchestrated the attack with nine assists and contributed defensively with four digs.
For Baruch
  • Alicia Graves paced the squad with nine points (eight kills, one solo block, one block assist).
  • Dong spiked down five kills and served three aces. 
  • Ortiz-Marmolejo served a match-best six aces, and Karolina Lundqvist chipped in with six kills.
  • Karen Pozo Castro (15) and Isabel Torres (7) distributed 22 of the team's 24 assists.
Inside the Box Score
The Cardinals swing 54 times, recording a -.037 attack percentage. Baruch generated 56 attacks at a rate of .232. In addition, the Bearcats had the edge in points (50-22), kills (27-16), aces (19-5), blocks (4-1), assists (24-13), and digs (18-15).
