FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College middle hitter Madison Plaza was selected to the eight-member 2024 CUNYAC Women's Volleyball Preseason Player to Watch list, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Playing in 43 sets last campaign, Plaza smacked down 10 kills, served nine aces, and scooped up 27 digs. Not always a starter, her career-best three aces were key in a road victory at Medgar Evers college (Sept. 9). 

Additionally, the Cardinals were chosen to finish seventh in the CUNYAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Hunter College is the favorite, accumulating 52 total points and four first-place votes. Baruch also received support with 43 points along with three first-place nods, while York totaled 13 points. The Cardinals' seven-match conference slate begins with a home battle against Baruch College on September 17.

The 2024 CUNYAC Championship will take place on November 12 (first round), November 14 (semifinals), and November 15 (finals), with the league champion receiving an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

Along with Plaza, second-year head coach Mario Tang returns regulars Alicia Gumbs, Jachimma Onwuamaegbu, Samantha Panameno, and Jasmine Vega to go along with several talented newcomers as the Cardinals build upon last season's momentum. 

The Cardinals open their campaign Thursday (Sept. 7) against the St. Joseph's University Brooklyn Bears (1-1) in a home non-conference battle inside York College Gymnasium starting at 6 p.m.
