Stanley Sanchez was recognized Wednesday as the CUNYAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week Honorable Mention Selection for games played Sept. 9-15. This is the midfielder's first-career men's soccer CUNYAC weekly honor.
Already a two-time CUNYAC Preseason Player to Watch, the Cardinal captain found the back of the net once and paced the team with five shots and three shots on target across 180 minutes. In a road match against Penn State Scranton (Sept. 11), Sanchez scored the equalizer in the 79th minute to secure a 1-1 result. Sanchez also led York with four shots and two shots on goal. In a home non-conference encounter versus Sarah Lawrence College (Sept. 14), he had one of York's two shots on target. The team's best player on the afternoon, Sanchez put in a huge midfield shift and even deputized at striker.
Across six games in 2024, Sanchez leads the Cardinals with five points, two goals, 16 shots, five shots on goal, and 536 minutes played. In the CUNYAC hierarchy, the senior places third in shots, sixth in points, and is tied for fifth in shots on target.
