NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball forward Tyres Desinor was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selection for games played February 12-18. Improving his play in the home stretch of the season, the senior landed on his first MBWA II-III Weekly Honorable Mention list for the Cardinals. 

Desinor showed up in two narrow defeats last week, averaging 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game on 57.6 percent field goal shooting. In a 101-97 overtime loss to Hunter College (Feb. 14), he dropped a career-best 27 points (12-of-21 FG) to go along with eight rebounds. Willing the squad back from a double-digit deficit, the big man scored 20 points in the second period to force overtime. Facing the tough Lehman College Lightning (Feb. 17) in the playoffs, the senior tallied 17 points (7-of-12 FG), seven rebounds, and three assists in a tough 91-87 defeat. Consistently spinning out of double teams and finding open teammates, if the Cardinals had a better shooting day they may have secured an upset. 

In Desinor's final 14 games, the Brooklyn native averaged 14.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 49.7 percent (86-of-173) field-goal shooting. Overall this campaign, Desinor ranked top-5 on the team in rebounds (2nd), field goal shooting (2nd), blocks (3rd), steals (4th).
