York College freshman center Brandon Barrett was recognized as the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for contests between Dec. 2-8. This weekly honor is York's first of the season after totaling eight during the 2023-24 campaign.
Barrett showed out Wednesday (Dec. 4) against Division I opponent Long Island University, recording a team-leading 15 points (6-of-11 FG, 1-of-1 3FG), 12 rebounds (four offensive), and a career-high six blocks on his way to a second consecutive double-double. Throughout the contest, LIU announcers consistently praised the freshman's performance and approach to the game.
Over seven games this season, the Queens native is averaging 11.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game. He is also shooting 53.2 percent (33-of-62) from the floor. Per the CUNYAC leaderboard, Barrett is second in rebounds and blocks per game. On a national level, he is tied for 28th in rebounds and tied for 49th in blocks per game.
